The ongoing contrast of hope versus reality discussed at the University of Derby, UK.
We were in Derby in the UK recently as a part of my book tour promoting: “How to solve AI with our brain: The final frontier in science.” We met a number of amazing people who provided lively discussions about the future of AI and their experiences with leading edge applications in education and commerce.
Our thanks go to the amazing Richard Self from the University of Derby for organizing our visit to explore outside of and beyond today’s generative AI paradigm.
In my field, I work with people from around the world in cognitive science and artificial intelligence, most of it online. So visiting the UK to meet face to face with some of those people was a great experience.
The AI people tend to be focused on how to implement solutions using today’s computer technology, like Dr. Kulvinder Panesar. Her recent work was fascinating to catch up with — hearing her approach to using a range of tools to create ethical AI solutions right from the design step in both the academic and commercial worlds.
The cognitive science people tend to focus on the empirical sciences such as linguistics, psychology or neuroscience to provide observations that provoke or inspire…
